What is the Forty Plus Cycling Club
:

Forty Plus is a club for cyclists of all abilities who have already celebrated their 40th birthday and who enjoy cycling in the company of others – either regularly or on an occasional basis. The Club has a total membership of some 900 of which 50 or more ride at some time or other with the St Albans section.

The Club is organised into sections stretching from Northampton to Essex, and from Surrey to the Kent Coast and offers something to for everyone - to find out more visit the
Forty Plus  website.  <Back>

When and where does it operate

The St Albans section is just one of  16 Sections in all that operate over a wide geographical area throughout SE England.  Most of the sections have organised weekly rides with meeting places and lunch destinations published quarterly in advance via ‘Rides lists’. These lists are included as an insert in the Signpost magazine, which is also published quarterly by the Central Committee of the Club. If you join the Club, you are entitled to ride with ANY section of your choice (or more than one if you desire!).  <Back>

What are the rides like

Most of the weekly section rides range from 25 to 40 miles from meeting point to lunch venue and home. The start point is fixed in some sections and works on a rotating basis for others. Some members prefer to ride to or from the lunch venue independently.

The St Albans section organises formal rides each Tuesday, starting variously from Hatfield, St Albans or Harpenden.  The lunch destination is normally a public house that serves good quality, reasonably priced bar snacks and light cooked meals.

There are also social meetings on Thursdays, when
we meet informally at 11:00 for coffee at Sandridge and / or for lunch at a nominated local hostelry. <Back>

How much does it cost

There is no joining fee. The annual subscription is currently £10 for individuals and £15 for Joint members (of the same household).

Application forms are available from here on the main Forty Plus Cycling Club website. <Back>

How do I know it's for me

Feel free to ride out with us a couple of times as a ‘guest’ before deciding whether to take up membership!

Just contact the Secretary beforehand for further information - or simply turn up at a designated start point and introduce yourself to the leader. <Back>
